You provide instructions to ZMerge by building a ZMerge Information Description (ZID) script. When you run ZMerge, it reads the ZID script to determine the location and format of the incoming data and translates your input data into Lotus Notes documents. You can configure ZMerge to match on one or more key fields, create new documents and update existing documents in a database.

How ZMerge ZID Builder Works

With the ZID Builder (our script creation wizard), even if you’re new to ZMerge you can use the ZID Builder to guide you through a series of simple questions to create a ZMerge application. ZMerge gives you a simple and cost-effective way to put your Lotus Notes data into the formats you need. The ZID Builder component is a graphical tool which you can use to create your ZID scripts. ZID Builder asks you a series of questions about the input data, such as sorting sequence, key fields, reader and author fields. Note: ZID Builder is usable for text <-> Notes transfers only.

Use ZMerge to:

• Convert existing data into new or existing Notes databases and documents.
• Perform periodic update from an external system, such as a nightly refresh of information from a mainframe database.
• Synchronize your Notes databases with legacy systems.
• Remove documents with duplicate key information.
• Migrate data from older Notes application designs.
• Create master address books from multiple sources.
• 'Explode' list data for the creation of multiple documents from single source documents.
• Create PC-IXF files for DB2 use with standard DB2 IMPORT or LOAD commands.
